CPD

Professional development does not stop with the achievement of registered status.  The competencies needed to function effectively as an engineering professional in any category change and expand at a rapid rate.  Registered persons have the responsibility to keep abreast of the developments and knowledge in their areas of expertise in order to maintain their competence.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is at present not mandatory for those registered with the ECN, but the new Engineering Professions Act, once passed into law, will require registered professionals to report on their continuing development. It is, however, necessary for those in training to carry out self-study and/or attend courses as required to develop into young professionals, and to report their Initial Professional Development (IPD) activities when applying for registration.
