Council President
Eng. Sophia Belete-Tekie is a Professional Civil Engineer registered with the Engineering Council of Namibia. She holds a professional Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia and a Certificate in Executive Leadership from Stellenbosch University, South Africa, as well as various post graduate diplomas and certifications in project management, strategic management, risk assessments, governance, ICT governance, road management, financing and road asset management from the University of Birmingham and other institutions. She has more than 32 years of work experience and is currently the Manager for Road Management System (RMS) at Roads Authority.
Her experience include membership and alternative membership of committees and councils of the World Road Association (Piarc) Committee on Asset Management and Financing, the Performance and Governance of Road Administration, Road World Association National Qualifications Authority Council (NQA), Engineering Professions Association (EPA) Council where she has also served as vice-president and President in various terms until present, member of the Engineering Council of Namibia from 2005 – 2013 and vice-president of Council from 2013 to 2018, Chairperson of the Public Relations Committee of ECN, International Road Federation Africa coordination committee, Southern African Transport Commission and Road Asset Committee of the Southern African Road Association.
She was member of Council from 2005 to 2018 and was again appointed in August 2022.
She is the President of Council.
